During Week 3, Room 10 had the opportunity to be the first class for 2015 to present an assembly item. As a class, we thought long and hard about the different items we could present on the day. We decided, as Wattle Grove was dressing up to celebrate Australia Day, we would think of something Australian to present. We started to discuss, during one of our 'Drop Everything And Talk' (D.E.A.T.) sessions, the different languages the students knew, in our classroom. Then Mrs Lavery announced that many years ago, Australians spoke a little differently. The type of language spoken, is now called 'Aussie Slang'. So, we looked into the 'Aussie Slang' and it seemed really funny and strange. People would say
dead horse for tomato sauce, or
sheila for lady. so as a class, we went searching on the internet for these types of words and found a song called 'Straya". It was perfect for our assembly, a combination of the slang words and the song. Then our assembly item was created and turned out to be a success.
This was Room 10's reaction to the announcement:
When Mrs Lavery told us the
news about Room 10 performing in the 1st assembly we said:
Stone the Crows, is this
Sheila fair dinkum, or is she as mad as a cut snake…..us tin lids are going to
find this hard yakka….Room 10 hopes they do a ripper job and we are really
stoked to be first……
We hope you enjoy the video of our assembly presentation. We had a lot of fun singing and dancing.
